Hello! I’m Mckenzy Johnson, founder of Kenzy’s Traveling Mixers. I grew up in Brazil, Indiana, where a small diner job first sparked my love for hospitality. That passion followed me to Indianapolis and Butler University, where I spent my college years bartending and catering at Binkley’s Kitchen & Bar, discovering how much I enjoyed creating memorable experiences for people.

After a short time in the corporate world, I realized my heart belonged to service, creativity, and celebrations. In May 2025, I launched Kenzy’s Traveling Mixers—a mobile dry‑hire bartending service dedicated to providing reliable, stress‑free, and customizable bar experiences for events of all kinds.

Planning an event in Indiana comes with a few alcohol rules, and my goal is to make the process simple, clear, and stress‑free. Here’s how it works depending on where your event is held and what you plan to serve.

Private Events (Homes, Backyards, Private Property)

If your event is hosted at a private residence and you’re not charging admission or making a profit, Indiana does not require any permits or licenses for alcohol.

That means you’re free to purchase and supply your own beer, wine, and spirits.

Clients hire Kenzy’s Traveling Mixers for:

  • Professional bartending

  • Preventing underage drinking

  • Making sure drinks are crafted correctly

  • Helping manage alcohol so you don’t run out too quickly

  • Keeping guests safe and preventing overserving

Private events are the easiest and most flexible option.

Public Venues (Any Rented or Public Facility)

Once you rent a venue or host an event open to the public, Indiana liquor laws apply. The rules depend on what type of alcohol you want to serve.

If You Want to Serve Spirits (Vodka, Whiskey, Tequila, etc.)

Indiana requires a 3‑way liquor license to serve hard alcohol at public venues.

Because I operate as a dry‑hire bartending service, I do not provide or sell alcohol. So if you want spirits at your event:

The venue must already hold a valid 3‑way liquor license.

(Or, in the future, we may partner with a licensed alcohol caterer to offer this option.)

The license holder is legally responsible for:

  • Ordering the alcohol

  • Supplying it

  • Transporting it

  • Serving it

  • Paying all required taxes

My team handles the bartending — the venue handles the alcohol.

If You Want to Serve Beer, Wine, Champagne, or Malt‑Based Beverages

You have three legal options in Indiana:

1. Hire a licensed alcohol caterer (2‑way or 3‑way license)

They supply, deliver, and serve the alcohol.

2. Hire my team AND use a venue that already has a 2‑way or 3‑way license

This is the simplest option. The venue provides the legal coverage, and we handle the bartending.

3. Apply for a Temporary Beer & Wine Permit

This is the most cost‑effective option and allows you to buy your own beer and wine from any store.

Under this permit:

  • The permit costs $53.94

  • A venue blueprint showing the bar location is required

  • If minors are present, the bar must be in a 21+ area

  • You must hire a permitted bartender (that’s us!)

  • A separate non‑alcoholic drink station is required

  • No additional alcohol can be brought in once the event begins

  • Only beer, wine, champagne, wine alternatives, and malt beverages under 21% ABV are allowed

  • No carry‑out alcohol is permitted

  • All open bottles must be emptied at the end of the event

The best part? I can handle the entire permitting process for you.
